Possible plans to stop GTA Online support
One of the most successful games of all time, Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) has enjoyed a long stay in the consoles and PCs of players worldwide with regular multiplayer updates and all around enjoyability. That may soon come to an end however.During a recent lawsuit against Take-Two by former Rockstar North president, Leslie Benzies, over a royalties dispute, we found out that GTA Online has, so far, grossed over $500 million from its microtransactions. During a recent lawsuit against Take-Two by former Rockstar North president, Leslie Benzies, over a royalties dispute, we found out that GTA Online has, so far, grossed over $500 million from its microtransactions. Despite that, Take-Two’s CEO Strauss Zelnick, has put forward a case for leaving the online component alone.
Speaking at the Cowen and Company Technology, Media & Telecom Conference (via GameSpot), Zelnick said, “Not only was it not our intention that GTA Online was permanent, but it’s important that it not be permanent. We have to rest the franchise at some point.” when he broached the subject.
While there are no confirmed plans to stop support yet, Karl Slatoff believes that it will be more beneficial in the long run. The most likely reason for this is because Rockstar will inevitably shift their attention towards the production of Grand Theft Auto VI. Whether that will be soon, further down the road, or if it’s already in production, is an announcement we’ll have to wait for.
Despite the possible plans for GTA Online support to stop, for now players can look forward to the Further Adventures in Finance and Felony update on June 7th. Following on from the Executives and Other Criminals update, players will now be able to climb the criminal ladder all the way to the top through buying properties and moving contraband all across Los Santos and Blane County. Be on your guard however as the LSPD and the rest of the criminal underworld will do all they can to to stop you.
