For the first time in series history, Resident Evil 7 will be written by a Western writer.
The series, which is typically penned by Japanese writers, will welcome Richard Pearsey, who is best known as the writer behind titles such as Spec Ops: The Line and FEAR.
Pearsey announced the news via a tweet that has since been deleted, reading, “This has been quite a trip. Very glad to have played a part.” Included in the tweet was a video showing off parts of the upcoming title, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.
It’s unclear what effects Pearse’s writing will have on the franchise, though many feel the latest entry is a return to the series’ original horror roots.
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard was revealed during the Sony E3 press conference last week and is set to launch on January 24, 2017 for PS4, Xbox One and PC. Additionally, the entire game will be playable in Sony’s PlayStation VR headset (though you might want to save that playthrough for during the day).
A demo for the game is available now for PlayStation Plus members, titled “Resident Evil 7 Teaser: Beginning Hour.”According to Sony, it’s set to give those who try the new demo “a sense of the intense and terrifying experience awaiting you.”
