PlatinumGames, the creators of Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising, are no strangers to big boss fights. But that hasn’t stopped them for going even bigger in their next game, Scalebound.
Showcasing the game’s 4-player co-op, the gameplay demo sees all four players fighting to take down a massive crab-like creature. The combat switches between on foot, to in the air on the backs of dragons, and back again. It even transitions between ranged combat and melee.
Scalebound is due out sometime in 2017 and will follow Drew, the protagonist, and his dragon Thuban, who will partner with him throughout the game. During the demo we see instances of their cooperation, Thuban flinging Drew through the air with his tail. Drew himself has powers as well though. During the demo we see him in dragon armor and shooting fire from his hands.
The game is part of Xbox Play Anywhere and will be available on Xbox One and PC.
While originally meant for a 2016 release, the game was delayed earlier this year. “Development on the game is going well and we’re really happy with how it’s coming together,” the developer said at the time. “Scalebound is one of the biggest games PlatinumGames has ever created: an epic adventure filled with exploration and fantasy gameplay, inventive multiplayer, and action-packed battles on an unbelievable scale – all set in a beautiful and evolving world. It’s the game our team has always dreamed of making.”
