Released earlier this year, Superhot is a first-person shooter that only advances time when you move. How do you make that even more insane? Easy, you put it in VR.
Promised as an immersive new take on the game, Superhot VR is coming to Oculus Rift. The new experience will be a “matrix-like encounter,” Oculus’s Anna Sweet said on stage during the PC Gaming Show. And, with the end of the teaser trailer, that certainly seems the case.
“Lose track of what’s real. Commit yourself, body and mind. Confront the evocative, elegantly brutal world of Superhot VR. Enemies pouring into the room from all sides, a dozen bullets coursing through the air…. wait. Something is different here…” the game’s description reads.
The result of three years of work with Oculus, Superhot VR is built from the ground up and re-designed for virtual reality. Interestingly enough, the trailer never shows any of the time stopping the main game is known for.
While there’s still very little information and only a single trailer to go on, the idea alone is enough to get excited about. The game will support Oculus Touch, the motion controls coming to the VR platform later this year. These too don’t have a release date, but are set to launch this year.
