While it’s been several months in the making, Valve has finally sold half a million Steam Controllers.
The controller will have some trouble dethroning the Xbox 360 controller as the go-to PC controller, since so many people already either use the 360 controller or enjoy mouse and keyboard more. However, as more games utilize the controller, it should slowly grow in popularity.
The controller’s haptic feedback design, rather than joysticks, allow for software update to constantly improve the controller. Things like control templates that can be mapped across multiple games, Steam VR support, and rumble effects by using the controller’s Force Reators have all been achieved since the controller’s released.
