Zelda: Nintendo explains the new approach to art and music
There are a lot of changes coming to the gameplay in the new Legend of Zelda game, but Breath of of the Wild is also changing both the art and music of the game. Players will no longer have constant theme music playing in the background. Instead, Nintendo is crafting a very different type of Zelda experience.While the toon-style of animation is nothing new for the series, Breath of the Wild uses it a bit differently. The art-stlye rose from the a desire to make items stand out more for the player. "The theme here is not that we wanted to create an animation style game," the developer explains. Instead the idea grew around functionality.

Once they settled on the open-air painting art-stlye, that style even extended to the thought process behind the music and sound. Minimalistic and light, the music is meant to invite the player to explore while emphasizing how open the game is. On top of that, the greater focus on environmental sounds like birds and insects, is all part of the game’s nature focus.
