For some time now, fans of the Dark Souls series have been looking for a remaster of the PS3 exclusive Demon’s Souls, the pre-spiritual successor to Dark Souls. And while it wasn’t outright stated that we’d see a remaster soon, From Software director Hidetaka Miyazaki rekindled the flame for a Demon’s Souls remaster.
Speaking with Gamespot recently, Hidetaka Miyazaki was asked whether From Software would look towards making a Demon’s Souls remaster, since Dark Souls 3 sold so well and demand for the remaster have been constant from fans of the series.
“The Dark Souls series is Bandai Namco Entertainment’s IP, and Demon’s Souls and Bloodborne is Sony Interactive Entertainment’s IP,” he said. “Hence, the decision to do a remake or remastering is under their jurisdiction. For me and for From Software, I don’t think we’ll be involved with their happening, but it could happen through another developer.”
Where the Dark Souls property goes from here is unknown. Miyazaki has stated multiple times that Dark Souls 3 would be his last game in the series, prompting Bandai Namco to begin working on some side projects with the series. One of these is a recently crowdfunded board game, while the other is a comic book based in the Dark Souls universe.
