Destiny is changing up PvP matchmaking
Though starting with only a limited time test, Bungie is looking at new ways to handle matchmaking in the Destiny PvP Crucible mode. Already underway, the test is limited to the control playlist. Essentially, the changes emphasize low matchmaking times over player skill.Posting on the Destiny website, Senior Designer Derrek Carroll explains how the team hopes these changes will improve the Crucible experience. “When the new settings are applied, players at the extreme ends of the skill curve (you probably know who you are) should see shorter Matchmaking times,” he says.

Posting on the Destiny website, Senior Designer Derrek Carroll explains how the team hopes these changes will improve the Crucible experience. “When the new settings are applied, players at the extreme ends of the skill curve (you probably know who you are) should see shorter Matchmaking times,” he says.
“Connection quality is still the primary search criteria. The changes we’re implementing will make playlists more responsive to the overall composition of the player population. As Matchmaking times shorten, you may encounter players across a wider range of skill.”
Bungie has yet to say when similar changes might come to other modes, or even if they will. The duration of the current test will depend on the results Bungie sees.
