Rise of the Tomb Raider is finally coming to PS4, but simply including the DLC that was already released on the game’s Xbox One and PC versions during the past year “wouldn’t satisfy us, or our fans,” developer Crystal Dynamics said. Instead, a whole new batch of DLC is coming to all versions of the game.
The first piece of DLC adds a whole new chapter to the story. Titled “Blood Ties,” this new segment takes place in Croft Manor, a location that exists in the main story of Rise of the Tomb Raider, but is only visible in cutscenes.
Croft Manor is an”incredibly important part of [Lara’s] story and the franchise,” Crystal Dynamics said. The new mode will allow you to explore the manor, while the adjoining DLC, “Lara’s Nightmare,” will task players with defending the manor against an undead invasion.
Additionally, the “Blood Ties” DLC will also be compatible with PlayStation VR, allowing players to explore this area in first-person for the first time in the series’ history.
Next up is the addition of online co-op play through the game’s endurance mode, a more challenging setting to see which teams are able to survive the longest and reach the top of the leader boards.
But if endurance mode is still not hard enough for you, a new difficulty titled “Extreme Survivor” will also be introduced, increasing the difficulty and taking away all checkpoints, meaning the only way to save your game is to forage enough resources to light campfires.
These modes, with the exception of the PSVR exclusive content, will be available across all platforms that Rise of the Tomb Raider is on, joining the existing three hour Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch expansion, and the Cold Darkness Awakened pack.
Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration launches on PlayStation 4 on October 11.
