Minecraft’s first console minigame, dubbed Battle Mode, is now available on consoles and is completely free for all players.
Battle Mode takes its inspiration from the popular PC mod Hunger Games, based on the concept from the titular books and films. In this mode, you and seven other players are all dropped into an arena with no equipment. Players must scavenge the arena for weapons and items in order to survive, and players will have to pick each other off one by one until there is only one left standing.
The free download comes with a total of three different maps, if that’s not enough for you, players can also pick up three additional maps in a DLC pack for $2.99. These maps are Medusa, Temple, and Lair with more map packs on the way. All the maps have a large central area, surrounded by passages, hidden rooms and jumping challenges, giving access to crucial supply chests.
Battle Mode is the first of many minigames that will be added to the console versions of Minecraft. There is no word on what the other minigames will be yet.
The new game mode is now available in the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U, and PS Vita versions of the game.
