Pokemon GO is slowly being released in more and more countries and regions each day, but one prominent area it has not yet reached is Japan.
The app’s developer Niantic is hoping to get the popular phone application released in Japan sometime in July, though the company claims that Japan’s poor server capacity is creating problems for the game.
“At present, the server capacity is Japan is not powerful enough,” Niantic Labs CEO John Hanke told Forbes. “We are working hard with our partners in Japan to enable the servers to keep up with the demand once the game goes online there. We expect it to be released by the end of July.”
However, “those familiar with Japan’s network complexities are suggesting that mid-September” is more likely for the release, according to the report from Forbes.
Additionally, the app is expected to face similar troubles when it aims to release in China and Korea.
“Google’s map information system in Korea is limited due to security concerns over North Korea,” Hanke explained. “In China, however, it is technically possible, but difficult to introduce due to the many hurdles, or should I say, regulations, we’d have to clear to get it to users.”
