Salandit was revealed with its own trailer highlighting the lizard’s attributes. Its special ability, Corrosion, allows it to inflict the poison status condition on all Pokémon types. This includes Poison and Steel types, typically immune to the status effect in previous games.
The new creature was first revealed by Junichi Masuda, composer and director of several of the franchise’s games, at the Japan Expo, occurring this week in France.
Along with the reveal trailer, a thorough description of Salandit appears on the game’s official website.
“Salandit emits toxic gas, together with flames, from the base of its tail. This poisonous gas has a sweet smell, and anyone who unknowingly breathes it in will become dizzy. Salandit is not a very powerful Pokémon, but its cunning nature allows it to battle fiercely by throwing its opponents off balance.”
The description continues with details on the unique traits that female Salandits possess. “Salandit females not only release toxic gases, they can also emit pheromones that attract males of all species, including Pokémon and humans. Inhaling these pheromones may cause opponents to be controlled by Salandit’s will.”
Sun and Moon is slated to release on November 18, 2016, exclusively, for the Nintendo 3DS.
