After one week, the latest edition of Summer Games Done Quick has ended, raising more than $1.295 million for charity.
This year’s earnings topped last year’s Summer Games Done Quick total of $1.23 million, as well as 2016’s Awesome Games Done Quick total of $1.2 million. This edition’s charity of choice was Doctors Without Borders, an international medical humanitarian organization providing aid in nearly 70 countries to people whose survival is threatened.
This year’s event, taking place between July 3rd and 9th, featured a special Summer Games Done Quick 2016 Humble Bundle, featuring many titles that were played by speed runners in previous year’s events. Sales from this bundle contributed $55,677.50 to the event’s final total.
Games Done Quick is a bi-annual event where volunteers speed run through games that are streamed in full online in order to raise money for charity. Players run through classics such as New Super Mario Bros., Mega Man, Castlevania, and Zelda II, but also tackle more modern titles such as BioShock, Ratchet and Clank, Fallout 4 and more. All the titles played at this summer’s event can be seen on the SGDC schedule.
The next Games Done Quick event will be Awesome Games Done Quick 2017 which will take place in Herndon, Va. from January 8th-15th 2017.
