Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick is a “believer” in Nintendo.
“We’re believers,” Zelnick told GamesIndustry.biz. “We never want to count Nintendo out. They do it over and over and over again. So we feel pretty enthusiastic actually.”
Despite the fact that the Wii U did not sell well, Zelnick is confident that Nintendo knows what its doing.
“It’s not a slump, it’s intentional,” Zelnick stated. “They come to market, they do really well, and they sort of exit the market for a period of time. They’ve been doing it for like 150 years, and that company has been doing the same thing… They’re really thoughtful, they come to market with something they really think is going to work, more often than not it really works, it blows up and then eventually they let it decline and they move on to the next thing. They don’t mind having time in between.”
Rumors are circulating that Nintendo’s next console, the NX, will combine home consoles with portable gaming. It has been reported that the system will have detachable controllers, and that it will utilize cartridges instead of discs.
The NX is expected to release in March 2017. There are reports that Nintendo will reveal the console sometime in September.
