A new update was released yesterday for Overwatch, and its new Summer Games mode in honor of the 2016 Summer Olympics introduced over 100 new cosmetic items available to collect.
Special seasonal loot boxes will be awarded over the next three weeks, between August 2nd and August 22nd. These special items include themed sprays, emotes, victory poses, highlight intros, player icons, and some very special skins available for Overwatch’s characters.
Blizzard warned that these items will no longer be available after the three weeks are up, “heading back into the vault” after it’s over. The special loot boxes cannot be purchased with credits, but are guaranteed to contain at least one item from the Summer Games 2016 collection.
The Summer Games introduced players to Lúcioball, a quick take on a 3V3 soccer game where every player controls Lúcio, whose primary attack has been replaced with a melee punch to take full advantage of the soccer game
“For this brawl, his primary fire has been replaced with a melee attack, allowing Lúcio to punch the ball—perfect for dribbling, passing, and shooting from short range,” Blizzard wrote. “When you need to launch the ball across the map, Lúcio’s alternate fire emits a blast of sound that gets the job done nicely.”
While Lúcioball is the first of Overwatch’s events, Blizzard teased that there are more on the horizon with “more festive Loot Box items, maps, and modes in the future.”
