Electronic Arts have announced that they do not expect Battlefield 1 to be the best selling entry in the Battlefield series.
During a post-earnings call, CFO Blake Jorgensen showed some forecast sales for Battlefield 1, and compared them to the series’ average sales.
“We’ve told people that typically a Battlefield title does about 15 million in a year,” states Jorgensen. “Our guidance is slightly under that. And we hope that that excitement builds and it will clearly go through that number. But for right now, it’s slightly under that number.”
Jorgensen also gave EA’s expectations for their other upcoming shooter, Titanfall 2. Unlike Battlefield 1, however, Titanfall 2 is expected to do much better than the first installment.
“We think it’ll do more than that, but it’s probably closer to 10 million than it is to 15 million as built into our guidance, so closer to 9 million to 10 million on [Titanfall 2] and just under 15 million on Battlefield 1.”
In a Twitch stream interview last month, Battlefield community manager for Germany, Sebastian Moritz, stated that the open beta for EA’s upcoming World War 1 shooter will take place shortly after Gamescom. He also revealed that Battlefield Insiders will be able to participate in the beta three days earlier than everyone else. Gamescom will take place between August 17th and 21st, so the beta should take place late August / early September.
Battlefield 1 will release on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on October 21st.
