When an online game becomes extremely popular, as is the case with Overwatch, there are obviously millions of people all of the world playing the game. This means that some of them are going to be good…very good. Playing against opponents who clearly have more skills, or more time to sit at home and play, can be frustrating. Sometimes this leads to some unethical decisions. There is a price to pay, however, for these decisions.
Yes, it appears in the Overwatch game, Lucioball, there is a bug in which players are actually given the option of choosing a different character other than Lucio for a split second. This may not seem like much, but when a game mode is only meant to for one character, it can make a big difference.
Game Director, Jeff Kaplan spoke about this in the Overwatch forums. “Apologies for this bug. We’ve attempted to fix it numerous times and have had unrelated issues preventing the fix. We hope to have a fix this week,” he stated. “In the meantime, we are in discussions with our Customer Support group to start taking action against those deliberately using the bug to play heroes other than Lucio.” There was nothing else added except, “Please do not exploit this bug. Fair warning.”
While no specific punishment was given, this almost makes it more frightening for Overwatch thinking of using this bug to their advantage. You heard it here folks, Blizzard says ‘Cheaters never prosper.’
