Payday 2 Crimewave Edition, the PS4 and Xbox One version of the game, has been out for over a year now, and ever since there have been no updates, but that will soon change. Starbreeze studios posted on Twitter, “Console heisters! Good news, we’ve just sent the content to Sony and Microsoft for testing! Looking to hear their feedback shortly.”
The content that has been sent for testing hasn’t been detailed yet, but it most likely includes some of the new heists and other content that has since been released for PC. The PC version of Payday 2 has received frequent free updates to keep players interested, but it has been over a year since the release of Payday 2 Crimewave Edition and fans of the game have repeatedly voiced their displeasure at how there had been no updates since its release. One post on the Steam forums titled “400 Days with no console update” became viral.
The forward movement is most likely a direct result of Starbreeze acquiring the rights to the Payday franchise from 505 Games which saw the removal of the microtransaction system that had been plaguing the game. Some fans may see this as too late though, as work has already begun on the 3rd Payday title, but Overkill has plans to continue support until November 2017.
