On the heels of the leak that the Nintendo NX is a handheld/console hybrid, Ubisoft has declared continued software support of the upcoming system.
Ubisoft announced Just Dance 2017 for the NX last month, with enthusiastic words from Ubisoft’s Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) head Alain Corre: “We have always appreciated the relationship with Nintendo, the co-creation and the fact that they are really concentrating on quality–they have fantastic brands. And they are addressing the family market in a very different way, their own way, which we appreciate. We have done a lot of products and successes with Nintendo in the past, and we believe that the NX will recapture a lot of the lapsed Wii players. So we will see when they release it, but we are confident.”
Although at this point all we know about the NX’s design is predicated on rumors from Eurogamer, albeit rumors Eurogamer has backed absolutely, people are excited for the new console, and Ubisoft is no different. CEO Yves Guillemot, for instance, says that “what we have seen is really great.”
Corre, too, just doubled down on Ubisoft’s support: “We’ve announced that we’re developing Just Dance for NX and we have other surprises that we will announce later, but we also believe Nintendo has the power to reinvent the way families are playing. Nintendo is a fantastic powerhouse of brands that are really cherished by a lot of fans and families… I am still impressed by the re-occurrence of successes and appetite even to day for the Nintendo franchises on the current system.”
All signs indicate that Ubisoft is putting a lot of stock into the Nintendo NX. You can pick up the system March 2017.
