Looking for an excuse to start over in The Witcher 3?

You may finally have that chance as Developer CD Projekt Red has confirmed that upcoming title The Witcher 3: Complete Edition will not be able to recognize your original save file from the game, at least not on consoles.

“The save files on consoles won’t be compatible between different game versions (GOTY vs regular version) as they are treated by systems as separate products,” CD Projekt Red community coordinator, Marcin Momot posted on the game’s forums. “This is something that’s not up to us. Sorry.”

However, Momot revealed that your save will successfully carry over on the PC version of the game.

“Your game saves will work — this is because of a more open system architecture of the PC,” he wrote.

The Witcher 3: Complete Edition will launch on August 30 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, containing the main story of The Witcher 3, as well as its two expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.

In our original review of The Witcher 3, we gave a perfect score, saying “Hundreds of hours of side quests await, all wonderfully voiced out by the game’s talented acting crew. It’s challenging to finish the game’s story with so many distractions around you and I highly encourage you to check them out. There are political conspiracies and monster hunting bounties at every turn in the Witcher 3. CD Projekt Red’s Wild Hunt is the nearest thing the games industry has to a perfect RPG.”
