The Xbox One sold more consoles than Sony’s PlayStation 4 during the month of July, a feat that Microsoft hasn’t accomplished in almost a year.
In a statement released to the NPD, Microsoft said they were “honored that Xbox One was the best-selling console in the U.S.” and that “total gaming hours on Xbox consoles globally were up 18 percent over last year, reaching 1.55 billion hours”over last year.
This is the first time that Microsoft’s console has sold more than the PS4 during a month since October 2015, likely due to the release of Microsoft marquee title, Halo 5: Guardians The reason for the spike? With the new Xbox One S debuting just two days into the month of August, many of the original Xbox One consoles saw fantastic bundles sold at low prices across numerous retailers during July, some coming in with four extra games for around $250, becoming an outright bargain.
While we’ll have to wait until September to see how the Xbox One S impacts the sales of consoles during the month of August. At the least, we know that the only available model of the slimmer Xbox is selling rather well – so well that retailers are running out and Microsoft doesn’t have plans to restock more.
