They are not often as held in the limelight as pop star musicians, classic movie directors, or Oscar winning actors, but some of the talents that help create our favorite video games are just as important to the players of this world. Blizzard Entertainment is one of the biggest developers on the planet, so they have had an abundance of fantastic creators on their staff for years. It is sad to say that one of their best is leaving the life of gaming.

Chris Metzen, who has been with Blizzard for over 20 years, has officially announced his retirement. While it was told to inside staff only this Monday, Metzen confirmed the announcement with his own post on the World of Warcraft forums. While it will be hard for the 42 year old to step away, he has faith that the future of his old company is very bright. “I’ve never been more proud of Blizzard and the quality of its products than I am now,” he stated. “It’s remarkable that even after all these years we can still reach new heights and take the world for an amazing ride. I believe Blizzard’s future is brighter than ever.”

As the Senior VP of Story and Franchise Development, Metzen helped shape the marvelous universes of Warcraft, Diablo, and more. He will be dearly missed, but we wish him all the best.
