At the recent Call of Duty XP event, which allowed early access for hardcore fans to see what the upcoming games have to offer, there was an “immersive PlayStation VR Experience, where fans can feel what it’s like to pilot a Jackal, the personal fighter jet in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.” This Jackal Assault VR was originally going to be just for event goers, but at the XP event’s keynote (via EGM), it was made clear that the game would be made free for PlayStation VR owners when Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare releases.
Jackal combat, while impressive, will be exclusive to the single player campaign and VR. As multiplayer designer Joe Cecot told EGM, “We really wanted to focus for this game on building the most successful core. So we don’t have Jackal combat specifically but we have things like the Apex scoresteak that actually uses the Jackal tech to move through the map, you can actually use the left bumper to roll upside down. It’s very freeing, it’s very cool to use, but the Call of Duty core, the moment-to-moment gameplay is what we wanted to focus on.”
This is in keeping with other comments made by design director Jacob Minkoff: “You only are fighting within the solar system the whole time. There are no aliens. you’re fighting other humans. We’re looking for the most grounded, believable conflict you could possibly have in space. That goes from the character performances and motivations all the way through the environments and the plot.”
So if you want to experience Jackal flight, this VR experience is one of the only ways– and, as its VR, the most immersive. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare releases November 4th.
