Despite taking a year off, Ubisoft revealed that the next Assassin’s Creed game in the franchise may not return in 2017.
In an interview with GameSpot during a press event in Paris, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said Assassin’s Creed “will be back when it’s ready.”
“What we saw in the development of the next [Assassin’s Creed] was that we had an opportunity to take it to another level,” Guillemot said. “So we said we’ll take all the time it takes to make the experience fantastic. It was feasible because we have other games. There’s a huge potential in this game to revolutionize the IP, so we said, ‘Let’s make sure we change our model so we have more time and that we can bring back a greater experience.’ ”
“It will be back when it’s ready. That’s when we feel we have something there,” he continued.
The rest of the interview includes Guilemot’s thoughts about media conglomerate Vivendi’s attempts to takeover Ubisoft.
In other Assassin’s Creed-related news, Ubisoft recently announced The Ezio Collection that will launch in November. Also, figures released by the company reveal that the Assassin’s Creed franchise has now sold over 100 million copies.
