While the 2TB version of the Xbox One S released at the beginning of August, the 1TB and 500GB versions only released last week. And it seems, at least in the UK, they had a pretty dramatic effect on console sales.
According to GfK data reported by MCV, last week saw Xbox UK market share increase 76 percent over last year. Even more impressively, simply week-to-week, Sept 24 showed a staggering 989 percent increase in sales. In comparison to the launch of the PS4 Slim, Microsoft’s sales were 361 percent stronger.
Though PS4 console sales were up 22 percent week-to-week, they were actually down in the UK by 66 percent since last year.
Part of the success of the Xbox One S is likely connected to the fact it is bundled with FIFA 17. “It’s great to see how popular both the Xbox One S and the FIFA 17 Xbox One S consoles are with fans, not just over the last week but since the Xbox One S was released in August,” Xbox UK marketing boss Harvey Eagle said to MCV. “4K video streaming and 4K UHD Blu-ray have been extremely well received and we believe there is no better value right now for those looking to upgrade their console.”
Notoriously not including a 4K UHD Blu-ray player, the PS4 Pro launches November 10.
