A first for Call of Duty multiplayer, players can now choose to spend in-game currency, called salvage, on different variations of weapons with different perks. Since Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the games have had a weapon progression system embedded in the multiplayer, but now players will have a wider range of choices when deciding how to upgrade their arsenal, allowing them to create weapons with abilities that suit their play-style.
After a player has unlocked the base version of a weapon, they can craft a prototype version of that weapon in one of four different rarities: common, rare, epic, or legendary. Higher rarity prototypes cost more to craft, but come with better built-in perks. The perks on legendary and epic weapons will be extremely powerful, as showcased in the video with a player calling in a nuclear “De-Atomizer” strike after earning a killstreak of 25.
The weapon crafting system is available to try out in the multiplayer beta. The beta is available now on PlayStation 4, starts on October 21st for Xbox One, and requires that you pre-order the game to get access. The beta will not be coming to PC.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare releases on November 4th on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
