Cuphead, the crowd-pleasing, 1930s-cartoon inspired shoot-em-up coming to Xbox One, has been officially delayed until mid-2017.
In a press release on Studio MDHR’s website, the developers explain that “we wanted to finish our game 80 years after 1936, but it will now be 81.”
The explanation they give is frank: “Throughout this year we discussed reducing the scope to make a 2016 release, but we made the difficult decision to delay the launch in order to ship with our vision intact.”
“We are constantly humbled by your continued support. Love you all and can’t wait to get this to you. Without further ado, we will get back to work!”
The delay should come as little surprise to those following its development– the game recently expanded from a chaotic boss-rush into a fully fledged platformer, replete with overworld, shops and items, levels, co-op (with Mugman), and more. This is not to mention the absurd amount of artistic work that goes into every single level, enemy, and even attack that the game has to offer. (For proof, just take a peek at cinematics and gameplay, below.)
Fans will have to just wait a little longer for a larger, better product. Cuphead will release mid-2017 on Xbox One, Windows 10, and Steam.
