According to developer Respawn Entertainment, Titanfall 2 will offer all downloadable weapons in all future updates for free. As Respawn’s Josh Medina says in the game’s subreddit, “We don’t want to put anyone behind a paywall it’s all about keeping the community together. We don’t believe in the pay to win module.”
The original announcement was confirmed by developers in a stream, helping to solidify the developer’s plan to keep the game fair. This follows an interview with PC Gamer that announced that all new maps and game modes will be free too, after making all maps in Titanfall 1 free, due to player base splitting and dwindling numbers. Respawn intends to keep the most important parts of multiplayer play free and accessible to all of their players – even offering cosmetic DLC in preorders from select retailers.
In the stream where all of this was announced, however, developers avoided the question of whether or not future Titans would be free. It’s possible that they’re not sure of pricing, or they’re still up in the air about how players will access future Titans. Hopefully Respawn Entertainment keeps their promises, and if they do provide paid DLC, it doesn’t give certain players the upper hand in multiplayer.
Titanfall 2 comes to Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4 on October 28th.
