Gears of War 4 is no exception to the pattern of day-one patches that many games encounter upon release. Physical copies of the game will require an 11GB update before booting up.
The information was initially revealed by Studio Head of The Coalition, Rod Fergusson, after responding to a fan inquiry on Twitter about the size of a day-one patch.
At first, Fergusson said there will not be a day-one patch. He later clarified by saying the preload for digital copies includes the patch for a total of 64.6 GB.

“To clarify – if digital, no day one patch since all 54.6 gigs are downloaded. If physical disk then there will be 11 gig download,” Fergusson said in a subsequent tweet. The preload is currently available on Xbox One now.
In other Gears of War-related news, the game recently wrapped up development and officially went gold last month. Also, Nvidia has released exclusive footage of the game’s Gridlock map and Guardian mode.
Gears of War 4 releases October 7 with early access. The official release is October 11 for Xbox One and PC. The game will support Xbox’s Play Anywhere program, which supports cross-purchase and cross-save between console and PC.
