Studio Wildcard has released an update to the Xbox One version of Ark: Survival Evolved that introduces 3 new dinosaurs and the ability to wield weapons while in the saddle.
The new dinosaurs are all incredibly varied, with different uses and sizes. The first, Kaprosuchus Paludentium, is a smaller swampland carnivore that runs at high speeds on land or water, making it a nice mount. Using strong attacks, they hunt by picking off smaller creatures when they’re alone. Flanking could be fatal due to the Kapro’s weak hide.
The Diplocaulus Natatorinutrix is a small amphibious dinosaur capable of acting as an oxygen mask for human divers, as they have specialized oxygen bladders that can be used to take breaths from. Their large lung capacity allows them to avoid predators that would normally drown if they properly gave chase.
And finally, the Chalicotherium Obsideoquus is a large cold-weather herbivore that looks like a mix between a polar bear, a gorilla, and a moose. They throw dirt and snow when threatened by players, and, when tamed, can even throw boulders at enemies, acting as mobile artillery.
Along with the riding the taming, the Ark update also offers up new Explorer Notes in the 130 treasure chests around the maps, these can give small experience boosts, along with some stories of old island natives. More about the patch can be found on the official forums.
Ark: Survival Evolved is available for early access on Steam and the Xbox Live Marketplace.
