Since Nintendo’s original confirmation that they were working on a new console, fans have been chomping at the bit for any piece of news on the NX. Today we were gifted with an official reveal trailer on the Nintendo website and the official Youtube.
Apparently, the NX is called the Nintendo Switch, and the reveal trailer describes it as, “In addition to providing single and multiplayer thrills at home, the Nintendo Switch system also enables gamers to play the same title wherever, whenever and with whomever they choose. The mobility of a handheld is now added to the power of a home gaming system to enable unprecedented new video game play styles.”
The trailer shows people playing the same game on what seems to be multiple systems, but judging by the name Switch, it’s all the same, connected console. Players switch between a traditional controller and television setup, to a tablet, to pulling the side panels off the tablet and using them as hand-held controllers- even a setup where a player snaps the tablet into a special holder in the car.
The Switch seems to handle multiplayer even in its smallest forms, showing us an entire Splatoon team playing with each other in a circle on the floor. The console also apparently can play Skyrim, so we’re potentially looking at an entirely different set of games coming to Nintendo consoles in the coming years.
The trailer concludes with the announcement that the Switch will be arriving in March, 2017.
