Square Enix has announced that PlayStation 3 players will be able to upgrade to the PlayStation 4 version of Final Fantasy XIV for free.
Until Sunday, December 31st, 2017, those who own Final Fantasy XIV on the PlayStation 3 will be able to upgrade to the PlayStation 4 version for free. Also, those whose subscription has expired will receive fourteen days of free play starting from the day that they upgrade to the PlayStation 4 version. Those who own the Collector’s Edition on the PS3 will be upgraded to the PS4 Collector’s Edition automatically. Just know that once the process has been completed, it cannot be undone. There will also be no need to register a second copy of Heavensward when upgrading to the PS4 version. You can read some important reminders from Square Enix here.
At the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival, it was announced that the MMO will be receiving a new expansion next summer, entitled Stormblood. The expansion will add new areas, raise the level cap from 60 to 70, and will continue the story of the Warriors of Light. There will also be new Jobs, new enemies, dungeons and high-level raids, and an increase to player inventory size.
Final Fantasy XIV is available on PC, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4. Support for the PlayStation 3 version of the game will end early summer 2017.
