This is the second time the release target for the game has been delayed. Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 was originally slated to hit shelves in the first half of 2016.
In the official statement, CI Games CEO Marek Tymiński claims the delays are primarily to allow the team more time for optimization and polish, hoping to “ensure Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 runs smoothly on all platforms.” The game is set to release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
CI Games may be better known for their work on 2014’s Lords of the Fallen, which they co-developed with Deck13 Interactive. While previous entries in the Ghost Warrior franchise were released to lukewarm reviews, Lords of the Fallen preformed somewhat better, and became something of a relative sleeper hit for the company.
Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 looks to build on that positive momentum. Set in the Russian border-country of Georgia, the game features an open-world format, a first for the series. Hopefully the additionally development time will ensure CI Games will be able to successfully transition to the new structure.
