Ubisoft and Red Storm Entertainment have pushed the release of the first VR starship simulator, Star Trek: Bridge Crew from late 2016 to early 2017.
“In order to deliver the best game experience possible at launch,” Ubisoft writes, “we have decided to push the release of Star Trek: Bridge Crew to March 14, 2017.” The newest Star Trek game has been designed from the ground up in VR and will pit you and your friends against the threats of an uncharted section of space called The Trench.
Star Trek: Bridge Crew offers one of the most unique gaming experiences, where each player will take over a role on the bridge of the USS Aegis. You will have full VR support to look around, overload those phasers, and take out any enemy Klingons. There are some games that are similar and can scratch the unique starship bridge control game, but Bridge Crew will be the first ever done in VR.
Ubisoft also promises other features, such as a mission generator, experimental systems onboard the Aegis, and full VR support. “The Trench contains stunning beauty and undiscovered wonders, but also strange anomalies and dangers yet unknown.” Unfortunately we’ll just have to wait a few extra months to see it. Star Trek: Bridge Crew will release on Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and PSVR.
