Titanfall 2 won’t have native 4K on PS4 Pro, will still look better
Executive producer of Titanfall 2, Drew McCoy, has confirmed that while the game's PlayStation 4 Pro version is already on the disc. The game will not run in native 4K, but the game will still run better and look better compared to the standard PS4 version.Speaking with Stevivor, McCoy suggests that because of the way Titanfall 2 is built, the PS4 Pro version doesn't have any specific differences from the standard PS4 version, rather it simply takes advantage of the new console's higher power to keep the frame rate and resolution as high as possible. He explains that each console version of the game, whether it's PS4, PS4 Pro, or Xbox One, uses resolution scaling in order to keep the frame rate as close as possible to 60 frames per second. Each version of the game does not have a set resolution that it runs at; the resolution will drop when necessary to maintain performance.

Speaking with Stevivor, McCoy suggests that because of the way Titanfall 2 is built, the PS4 Pro version doesn’t have any specific differences from the standard PS4 version, rather it simply takes advantage of the new console’s higher power to keep the frame rate and resolution as high as possible. Since the PS4 Pro is a more powerful machine, the game will have to lower its frame rate less often, and can keep a higher visual fidelity throughout the game. It still won’t ever reach true 4K, but according to McCoy it’s not just Titanfall 2 that won’t be reaching it, it’s all games. “It’s not native 4K and I would be surprised if anyone saw native 4K with AAA level games any time soon.”
McCoy goes on to say that it simply takes too much processing power to achieve native 4K, but that doesn’t mean that there won’t be a noticeable visual improvement.
Titanfall 2 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
