Nintendo has announced that Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King will be coming to the Nintendo 3DS next year on Jan. 20. The 3DS port of the game adds new content including two new playable characters, new side quests and the ability to send photos via StreePass.
The new story content will provide more background about The Hero and the game’s villain Dhoulmagus. In addition to the story, more dungeons and side quests are available as well as an alternate ending. Also, the game has been streamlined with a quick-save option and a Speed Up feature, which decreases the time spent in encounters.

Outside of combat and cutscenes, players can pause and snap a picture of their adventure. These images can be altered using special poses, adding stickers, filters and frames. After the player reaches a certain point in the game, rewards can be earned for taking photos of specific monsters or scenarios.
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King was first released on PlayStation 2 in 2004. The game was originally developed by Level-5. Developer Tose handled the mobile and 3DS port.
Stay tuned for more updates on the port leading up to its launch in January.
