EA’s answer to GTA is still in development
It's no surprise that ever since Grand Theft Auto III hit the market, the open-world action genre has exploded, with many developers creating their own take on the genre. For EA, that game is still very much in production, and apparently is "three or four years out" according to an update on Gamespot's piece on EA's quarterly reports.Late last year, EA had announced plans to enter what was titled the "Gigantic Action" genre, citing that the company isn't known " to make gigantic action games like Assassin's Creed or Batman or GTA or those types of games." As mentioned last year, EA's Executive Vice President, Patrick Soderlund spoke about how, while the team would love to pull impressive sale numbers similarly to the likes of Grand Theft Auto, they would rather focus filling their portfolio by making that type of game, and one they could be proud of. According to Soderlund, one of the biggest ways is to have the right people for the job.

It was confirmed that Jade Raymond would helping out in this new endeavor, especially considering how she has worked on games like Assassin’s Creed 1 to 3, Watch Dogs and Splinter Cell: Blacklist. Alongside her, the new team at Motive Studios in Montreal will be focusing their attention on this new IP for EA.
