We may be used to games depicting war. Shooting, running, taking cover, and generally blasting the enemy in to oblivion. Studio 11 provides us with a whole new angle on the idea of a war game, with their title This War of Mine. For those unfamiliar with the game, you play the part of a group of civilians in a besieged city, trying to scavenge for food and medicine under the constant threat of snipers and other groups of hostile survivors. The Anniversary Edition has just been given to owners of the game as free DLC.
The DLC is not a standalone, instead they released it as a free update for the original game. It brings three new locations, new civilians, a new ending scenario and extra achievements to earn. It will download automatically for players when they log in to Steam.
Polish developer 11 Bit announced their next game Frostpunk in August. It is another bleak survival title, where humanity is pushed to its extremes. 11 Bit say they wouldn’t have been able to create Frostpunk had This War of Mine not been such a success with the gaming community. The Anniversary Edition being released for free is a way of saying thank you to fans.
You can purchase This War of Mine on Steam for £14.99/$19.99.
