Capcom is aiming for Resident Evil 7 to be its biggest launch on the current generation of hardware, as the developer is aiming for 4 million day one sales.
Speaking to MCV, EMEA marketing director Antoine Molant said that Capcom is looking to sell 4 million copies of Resident Evil 7.
“Commercially, [Resident Evil 7] is probably the biggest Capcom game we are releasing on the new machines,” Molant stated. “Ideally, we’d love to sell 4m on Day One globally. That would be great. Looking at what we see in the pre-orders and trends these days, we’re pretty confident we are going to get there. All the signs that we have seen across the market, whether it’s from the UK or from other territories, are very positive so far. We’re not sitting back and relaxing at all because we want to push that. The confidence is there.”
Molant also spoke on the upcoming horror title’s pre-orders.
“To be very frank, they’re very good. Keeping in mind the real pre-order campaign started a week ago with the Steelbook announcement and some of the Collector’s Edition announcement… before doing that, they were quite above what we were expecting. We’ve got the previews coming out and some more launching in December. On that front, we’re very happy.”
Earlier this week, three new trailers for Resident Evil 7 were released (they can be seen here). The trailers show some of the environments that players will visit, and some of the enemies that they will come across. Through these clips, we get a good idea of the direction that Resident Evil 7 is heading.
Resident Evil 7 is set to release on January 24th for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game’s demo received a massive update last week.
