Sony was already having a very good year for the PlayStation 4 and, as of this weekend, its been the best year for PlayStation ever.
According to a press release from Sony itself, the PlayStation 4 had “the best ever Black Friday week in the history of PlayStation”. As of December 6th, 2016, and counting from the release of the PS4 in each region, the system has cumulatively sold over 50 million units. This includes the “cutting-edge imaging technology” upgraded model, the PS4 Pro.
In addition, software sales are still doing spectacularly, with an estimated 369.6 million PS4 games sold in physical and digital formats.
Among other popular games like Final Fantasy XV, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, and The Witness, which are also available on the Xbox One, the press release takes especial notice of system exclusives such as The Last Guardian and Horizon Zero Dawn.
This sudden burst in sales likely has something to do with the impressive list of game announcements coming from PlayStation Experience 2016. Of those PSX2016 announcements, The Last of Us: Part II stands out as one of the best console exclusives the PlayStation 4 will have to offer.
Little is said of PlayStation VR in the release, except a literal mention and a quick highlight of its title Here They Lie. Last we heard, PS VR sales were “on track.”
