Space Hulk: Deathwing is powered by the Unreal Engine 4 and is the latest in a long line of Space Hulk games. Unlike most entries in the franchise, Space Hulk: Deathwing is a tactical team-based first-person shooter. In the game, players take the roll of a member of one of the most powerful regiments in all the Imperium, The Deathwing. Gamers are promised an impressive story, co-written by Gavin Thorpe, that can played either alone or with friends.
The trailer demonstrates the capabilities of the game’s impressive graphics engine as Space Marines mow down the iconic and infamous Genestealers; the Deathwing marines blast their enemies into meaty chunks as the Genestealers continue to swarm the Space Hulk’s hallways in a veritable sea of teeth and claws. The music and camerawork effectively ramp up the tension as the two forces slam against one another in a desperate bid for victory.
Unlike Space Hulk: Deathwing, the previous Space Hulk video game, simply named Space Hulk, was a tactical turn-based game. Space Hulk was poorly received despite being a near one-to-one translation of the board game. Eagle-eyed viewers will note that Space Hulk: Deathwing adopts a gameplay style similar to Nordic Games’ Warhammer: The End Times – Vermintide. Both games are team-based first-person shooters where players use various weapons and class abilities to fight off overwhelming numbers.
Space Hulk: Deathwing will release for PCs December 14th, 2016 and will be released for consoles sometime in 2017.
