A new trailer for the Assassin’s Creed movie has released, giving us our best look yet at the film, including how Ubisoft has adapted the series onto the big screen. The Assassin’s Creed film follows many of the story conventions found in the series and captures the action that the series is known for.
The film follows Callum Lynch who has been contracted by Abstergo Industries to track down the Apple of Eden using the Animus, a device that allows users to travel back in time to relive the events of their ancestors. In the trailer we can see that this device is noticeably different than its counterpart in the game
The film takes place during the Spanish Inquisition. During his time in the Animus, Lynch assumes the identity of his ancestor Aguilar de Nerha as he battles against the Templars to discover the whereabouts of the Apple of Eden. The film features fast paced combat and many of the iconic tools and Assassin techniques that fans of the franchise will quickly recognize such as hidden blades and leaps of faith.
Assassin Creed will be produced by the Irish–German actor, Michael Fassbender, who has stared in films such as X‑Men: First Class and Prometheus. The film is set to be released in theaters on January 1st, 2017.
