At The Game Awards, Telltale showed off some footage from the third season of their Walking Dead series, titled The Walking Dead: A New Frontier.
The footage is from the premiere of the series, which is called The Ties that Bind, and it shows that Clementine will be returning once again, and will work alongside a new playable character, Javier. While much of what is shown takes place right at the start of the zombie outbreak, the bulk of the game will take place four years afterwards.
Telltale had already announced that series would start its release on December 20th. But at The Game Awards, Kevin Bruner, CEO and co-founder of Telltale, revealed that the premiere would actually be the first two of the five episodes, instead of the usual single episode. According to Bruner, the premiere is simply too big for one episode, so the first two episodes will make up The Ties that Bind and will be released together.
Telltale also gives a synopsis for A New Frontier in a post on their website:
“When family is all you have left… how far will you go to protect it? Years after society was ripped apart by undead hands, pockets of civilization emerge from the chaos. But at what cost? Can the living be trusted on this new frontier? As Javier, a young man determined to protect his family, you meet a young girl who has experienced her own unimaginable loss. Her name is Clementine, and your fates are bound together in a story where every choice you make could be your last.”
The first two episodes of The Walking Dead: A New Frontier will available for download on December 20th on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, iOS, and Android.
