CEO of Gearbox Studios Randy Pitchford recently responded to a question about if Borderlands 3 would release on the Switch. Pitchford responded by admitting that Gearbox and Nintendo were in the middle of negotiations until they suddenly stopped:
@dECU_nutt I do not see that as happening. We were talking to Nintendo, but that stopped for some reason. They have other priorities.

Pitchford did not elaborate on the situation. We do not know why the talks stopped or even if they concerned Borderlands 3, but Pitchford’s response implies that the game might never be available on the Nintendo Switch.
The Borderlands franchise is a series of three co-op first person shooters (and one narrative-driven point-and-click adventure developed by Telltale Games) with RPG-like leveling, quest, and class mechanics. The main selling point of the Borderlands games (not including the one by Telltale Games) is its procedurally generated guns. While the main series has three entries, the third one is actually a midquel that takes place between Borderlands and Borderlands 2. Even though the Telltale Games Borderlands game is the latest chronologically in the series, an actual Borderlands 3 has yet to be released.
While Borderlands 3 has not yet been announced, Randy Pitchford may have inadvertently admitted in his Tweet that it is in development. When he is finally ready to announce the game, Gamespresso will help spread the news.
