Last night, Nintendo held a livestream event to announce the Nintendo Switch and its various games and peripherals. While Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was not explicitly revealed during the event, its trailer appeared shortly afterwards on the official Nintendo YouTube page.
The highlight of the trailer starts when an Inkling boy and girl are seen driving their own unique Splatoon-themed karts around a large Splatoon arena. The trailer also shows that the Inklings will come in a variety of colors, not unlike Yoshi and Shy Guy.
While the trailer primarily focuses on the Inklings and their karts, several other characters, items, and karts that did not appear in Mario Kart 8 are featured in the trailer. These include the characters Dry Bones and King Boo, the feather and Boo items, and Bowser Jr.’s iconic Clown Car.
Link from The Legend of Zelda and Isabelle from Animal Crossing, their respective karts, and the Hyrule track also appear in the trailer, implying that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will come with most, if not all, available Mario Kart 8 DLC. Only time will tell if Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will have its own DLC.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is scheduled to release for the Nintendo Switch on April 28th.
