Studio general manager and vice president of BioWare Aaryn Flynn recently adressed questions concerning the PC system requirements for Mass Effect: Andromeda. Flynn responded by stating that the requirements would probably be announced in February.
Mass Effect: Andromeda uses the Frostbyte 3 engine. Other games that use this engine include Battlefield 1, Star Wars: Battlefront, and BioWare’s own Dragon Age: Inquisition. Some of the more recent Frostbyte 3 titles share similar or even identical system requirements. However, PC gamers should not expect that a computer that can run Battlefield 1 at 60 FPS on Ultra settings will do the same with Mass Effect: Andromeda.
Sadly, computers that meet a game’s minimum or recommended system requirements are not guaranteed to run the game. PCs come with a wide variety of motherboards, processing units, RAM cards, operating systems, and graphics cards. Certain graphics cards and RAM cards are incompatible with certain motherboards and vice versa. Game developers have to account for all possible configurations when they optimize games for PC. Batman: Arkham Knight is only one example of a recent game that was unplayable for most PC gamers, including those who had computers that exceeded the recommended system requirements, due to shoddy optimization. However, BioWare has a decent track record when it comes to optimizing games for the PC, so it is unlikely this will be the case.
