At Nintendo’s official event in New York City today, they have announced the release date as well as the price for their upcoming console, the Nintendo Switch. The Switch will release simultaneously worldwide on March 3, 2017, and it will be priced at $299 USD in North America and 29,980 yen in Japan. No European prices were given, with Nintendo telling their European fans to check with their local retailers for price details, as it may vary by region.
This price will put the Switch directly in line with the other two game consoles currently on the market. At this time, the PlayStation 4 can be purchased for $299 USD, and the Xbox One can be purchases for $249.
As of right now, only one SKU has been announced for the Nintendo Switch, meaning that there will not be a more expensive model with more onboard storage. Since the Wii U released with two SKUs, one for $299 USD and one for $349 USD, it was unclear as to whether or not Nintendo would use the same strategy with the Switch.
The Nintendo Switch was first officially revealed in a trailer that was released in October of last year. You can check out the reveal trailer below.
