Sony is ringing in the new year with a trailer featuring upcoming PlayStation 4 console exclusives. Highlights of this trailer include Nioh, NIER: Automata, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, and PaRappa the Rapper 20th Anniversary.
Nioh, the latest game from Team Ninja, is a Dark Souls-esque RPG that takes place in a feudal Japan overrun by evil demons and spirits. The game features a brutal but highly rewarding level of difficulty, various weapons and weapon styles, and monster designs reminiscent of traditional Ukiyo-e paintings. Nioh also stars a white-haired protagonist who is strikingly similar to Geralt of Rivia.
NIER: Automata is a hack and slash game that takes place in the NIER universe. Trailers and demos feature gameplay that combines fast-paced sword-slashing action with bullet-hell segments, but very little is known about the game’s story. However, the developers have promised the game will retain NIER’s RPG elements and include several familiar faces.
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is a standalone story DLC for Uncharted 4 staring Chloe Frazier. A recently released trailer demonstrates realistic visuals, a lock picking mechanic, and martial arts-focused action. Sadly, Naughty Dog has been very hush hush about the story.
PaRappa the Rapper 20th Anniversary is a remastering of the classic PlayStation rhythm game. The 20th anniversary version updates the original game with HD visuals and 4K support. PaRappa the Rapper has not seen a sequel or spin-off since 2001’s PaRappa the Rapper 2 for the PlayStation 2. However, PaRappa was included as a playable character in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.
All of the games featured in the trailer will release for the PlayStation 4 throughout 2017.
