Prey, Bethesda and Arkane’s sci-fi horror game set to come out in May has been given another trailer showing off what will probably be the most popular part of the game: Mimic.
In Prey, you play as Morgan Yu, “mankind’s last hope”, stuck on a space-prison-turned-research-facility. As Yu, you can adapt to the aliens’ strange abilities, including that of the Mimic Typhon, a tiny alien that can take the form of items around the station.
“Mimic is a really fun power with a lot of uses,” says Lead Designer Ricardo Bare. “The most obvious is stealth. It’s a great way to hide from an alien that might be too strong for you. Or, you can get the drop on an alien by ambushing them. It’s also a really good way to access a closed-off area.”
Mimic in Prey is a very versatile mechanic, be it for stealth or progression. You can pretend to be a harmless bag of space chips to avoid detection from the alien that you aren’t mentally prepared to take down yet, or turn into an apple to roll through a small gap in the door you couldn’t fit through as Morgan.
Prey may be a horror game, but flying through space as a banana might just lighten the game up a bit. The game is set to release May 5th of this year for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
