Netflix has announced that they plan to release a television series based on the Castlevania franchise. The television series will be handed to the streaming service later this year. According to the press release, Season One of the series will include four thirty-minute episodes that are set to release globally. The series will also be produced by Adi Shanka and comic veteran Warren Ellis.
Even though there isn’t a large amount of information about the project, the information that has been released by Netflix states, “Inspired by the classic video game series, Castlevania is a dark medieval fantasy following the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself. The animated series is from Frederator Studios, a Wow Unlimited Media company, written by best-selling author and comic book icon Warren Ellis and executive produced by Warren Ellis, Kevin Kolde, Fred Seibert, and Adi Shankar.”
The original Castlevania released back in 1986 on the Family Computer Disk System (Famicom) in Japan. The game was later released for the Nintendo Entertainment System a year later. Since then, the series has seen a large number of entries throughout the years, with the lastest game being Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
